Sun Life Financial-Philippines Foundation, Inc. (Sun Life Foundation) continues to uphold its commitment to building disaster resilience with a PHP 1M donation to World Vision Philippines, bolstering the organization’s disaster response program.

This donation enables World Vision Philippines to distribute 1,024 Hope Kits to families in communities affected by disasters. Each kit contains essential items including blankets, a mosquito net, and a sleeping mat, helping address the immediate needs of disaster-stricken and displaced families.

“Beyond extending help to affected families and communities, responding to disasters is also about restoring safety, comfort, and dignity during their most vulnerable moments,” said Sun Life Foundation President Joy Castillo. “Through this donation, we aim to ensure that Filipinos affected by disasters have access to essential items that can aid them in their recovery.”

The Philippines remains one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world, with thousands displaced by typhoons, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and extreme weather events each year.

“In times of crisis, restoring safety, comfort, and dignity is just as crucial as providing aid. Partnering with Sun Life Foundation once again demonstrates the power of strong, united action in disaster response,” said World Vision Philippines National Director Dr. Herbert Carpio. “Thanks to their generous PHP 1M donation, over a thousand families will receive Hope Kits with vital supplies like blankets and sleeping mats to help them recover. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sun Life Foundation for standing with Filipino communities through every challenge.”

A MOA signing ceremony was held to mark the collaboration, graced by Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. Chief Operating Officer and Sun Life Foundation President Joy Castillo, Sun Life Philippines Chief Strategy and Enablement Officer and Sun Life Foundation Vice President Aleister Cruz, and Sun Life Foundation Executive Director Kristine Millete. They were joined by World Vision Philippines representatives, led by National Director Dr. Herbert Carpio and Resource Development Director Jun Godornes.

This donation builds on the two organizations’ previous disaster response collaborations. In 2025, the partnership reached over 500 families in Manila and Malabon in the wake of Severe Tropical Storm Crising as well as 700 families affected by the Cebu earthquake, Typhoon Tino, and Super Typhoon Uwan through a donation from Sun Life Canada.

As the philanthropic arm of Sun Life Philippines, the country’s first and longest-standing life insurance company, Sun Life Foundation is committed to empowering Filipino communities through programs in education, health, and environmental sustainability.
