The Unleash Pawscars Short Film Festival officially kicked off on May 27 with a heartwarming media launch that gathered filmmakers, pet lovers, and advocates of the animal-human bond. Celebrating stories that tug at the heart, this one-of-a-kind festival invites storytellers to submit short films under the theme “Unleash the Love,” highlighting the real-life magic our furry companions bring into our lives.
Whether it’s about a loyal dog, a clingy cat, or even a duck that helped you heal — Pawscars wants to see your story come to life on screen.
At the media launch, the festival unveiled its all-star jury lineup: acclaimed indie director Arvin Belarmino, socially conscious filmmaker Joseph Abello, and industry icon Joey Reyes, who takes the helm as Head of Jury.
Festival Director Mark Sakay captured it perfectly: “Pawscars isn’t just a film competition — it’s a tribute to the unconditional love and joy our pets bring into our lives. These are stories that deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated by all.”
The festival welcomes all Filipino nationals worldwide, no matter your filmmaking experience. You don’t need a big-budget crew — just heart, honesty, and a camera.
Entries can be in any genre and should run 20 minutes or less (including credits). If your film is in another language, don’t forget to add English subtitles.
